Thanks to a student-submitted bug report, we are aware that items on TigerTrade are not appearing and that it may not be possible to add new items.  I'm going to try to figure this out with the help of Adam Ernst, Point creator.

Update 8:53AM: The database tables were corrupt again.  The possible source could have been a hard server reboot by OIT.  I will look into the cause.  But service has been restored.

Point is Offline (September 19)

All events and Tiger Trade items on Point have gone missing, and the cause is unknown.  We are working now to restore the events and determine the source of the problem.

Update: 3pm, Saturday
OIT will soon restore Point to a previous state.  Some information submitted to point (events, tiger trade items) since the last backup may be lost.  We are still investigating the cause.

Update: 4:30pm, Saturday
On the phone now with OIT and the Point creator, Adam Ernst.  We are in the process of restoring Point from a previous backup -- it may take a day or so for the restore to happen.  In the meantime, Point will be taken offline.  There is evidence that a hacker compromised the system.  We may be restoring Point to the state it was in a few days ago, possibly losing any changes (events, tiger trade ietms, etc.) since then.

Update: 5pm, Saturday
It looks like the hacker may not have directly caused the problem.  In response to intrusions into the server by this hacker, OIT moved the files that comprise sites like this one and Point to a new, more secure server.  During that transfer, the database files may have been corrupted, causing Tiger Trade listings, and eventually Point Events, to go missing.  Adam ran a utility to repair the files, and the utility reported that almost all of the files were corrupted but all were successfully repaired.  Therefore, we believe this to be the source of the problem and the problem to be solved.  We restarted the server and put the service back online.  During the next few days, we will monitor the site.  If you notice anything odd with Point or any other USG services, please use the Outage and Bug Report Form on the USG site.
