To: Princeton University Undergraduate Students

From: The Office of Sustainability

Date: Dec. 15, 2011

Re: LED Bulb Discount Program for University Community

As part of Princeton's commitment to sustainability, faculty, staff and students may purchase high efficiency LED light bulbs at a special price through a partnership of the Office of Sustainability, Undergraduate Student Government, New Jersey Clean Energy Program and Philips Lighting. The discount program is available until Jan. 18, 2012.

To purchase a Philips light-emitting diode (LED) bulb for the special price of $13 visit the Energy Federation, Inc., online store and enter the code "Princeton" at checkout* along with your New Jersey home or work address (only NJ addresses may be used). Individuals may purchase up to 100 bulbs. Orders may be picked up after the New Year at the new sustainability kiosk on the 100 level of the Frist Campus Center, which is scheduled to open the week of Feb. 6 (you will be contacted with exact hours), or starting in February during regular business hours at the Office of Sustainability at 106 Alexander Street. Orders will not be delivered directly to your address.

The program is part of an Undergraduate Student Government (USG) light bulb exchange expected to launch in February. The USG, in partnershipwith Philips Lighting, will provide a limited number of participating undergraduates with one FREE high-quality LED bulb for use in personal lamps in exchange for an incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulb. The program is believed to be the first student-initiated LED bulb exchange in the nation. Any undergraduate who wants to purchase additional bulbs is welcome to do so anytime between now and Jan. 18.

The Philips EnduraLED 12.5 watt bulb includes the following features:

•           First 60 watt incandescent equivalent LED bulb to be ENERGY STAR® Qualified

•           Delivers a soft, even white light with no flickering

•           Smooth dimming to 10 percent of full light levels

•           25,000 hour lifespan

Get 30% Off of Course Books for the Spring Semester

For your upcoming classes, don't forget about the new initiative from the Office of the Dean of the College for purchasing course books in a more convenient and more affordable manner.  Earlier this year, the University launched a customized software tool on Blackboard that enables you to access the reading lists for all courses and purchase your books online.  In addition, you will receive a 30 percent discount off the publisher's list price of all new and used course books that you buy through Labyrinth Books, the University's bookstore.  Labyrinth will package all online orders for express pickup at its store on Nassau Street. If you took advantage of this program for the fall semester, keep in mind that Labyrinth will be buying textbooks back based on the publisher's list price, not the discounted price, resulting in additional savings.

For further information about the purchasing tool and discount program, please visit the program's website.

Online Student Groups Hub
Frontpage - Project News
Written by Rafi Shamim
Thursday, 17 November 2011 07:39

The USG is introducing a new online platform for all student groups: HUB.

This site will be a great resource to all students because it's 1) interactive; 2) centralized; 3) standardized; 4) easy to browse; and 5) dynamic.  Each student group will have its own page, with the opportunity to update with current events or announcements, to list leadership as well as membership rosters, and to post photos or videos! All students can manage the groups of which they are a member under a ‘My Groups’ tab. This URL will be sent out to freshmen during Orientation Week, and to the entire student body at the beginning of each semester.

If you don’t already have a website, and want more online presence, HUB is the perfect opportunity! If you do already have a website , HUB can further complement the site or FB page you have by effectively linking your site with other student group pages in one easy-to-find site.

To learn more or to see a demo, feel free to drop by two Open Houses in the USG office, Saturday 11/19 and Sunday 11/20 from 6:30-7:30PM.

The site's officially launching at the start of Spring Term, just in time for the Activities Fair. Here is an example of some FAKE group profiles. Don't be left behind --- register your group!  Check out http://groups.tigerapps.org/help/ for more information.

The website is: groups.tigerapps.org

Check out a video demonstration of the site!
