Senate Policies

Committees

 About USG Committees:

The seven USG committees aid the USG Senate in serving the Princeton undergraduate student body. Composed of an elected or appointed chair and a group of selected undergraduate students, each committee focuses on a specific area of interest, ranging from academics to sustainability. These committees develop their own policy proposals and programmatic initiatives, which are then presented to and implemented by the Senate at-large. In this way, the committee system helps ensure that USG is able to give equal and specific attention to a variety of different areas of interest and concern.

If you have comments or concerns that could best be routed through one of USG's committees, please reach out to usg@princeton.edu.

Academics Committee

About

The Academics Committee is a group of approximately students committed to offering undergraduate input on all matters academic at Princeton. We meet monthly to discuss University policy ideas, offer student feedback on academic issues, and put forward proposals on how to advance agenda items. Multiple members of the Committee also hold seats on University committees, most notably the Committee on the Course of Study (COCS) and the Committee on Undergraduate Admission and Financial Aid (CUAFA), where we aim to offer the student perspective on a variety of issues.

As a Committee, we have outlined our goals for this semester. First, we want to establish a means to create mixed concentrations for students. Second, we will establish a more regular, expedient way to collect student feedback. Third, we will work to create a more equitable, fair PDF policy to exist beyond the end of the pandemic. Fourth, we will strive to diversify course options and elevate ASL to that of an accepted language credit. We welcome any comments, questions, and suggestions from the student body, as we are meant to represent you on all fields academic. If you have any questions, please email the Chair, Austin Davis.

Mental Health Committee

About

The Mental Health Committee’s core mission is to create lasting projects, policies, and connections that support all students’ mental health at Princeton. The purpose of the Mental Health Committee is to address the need for a coordinated and effective mental wellness system, and to ensure that mental health is properly prioritized and situated within the Undergraduate Student Government and general Princeton body.

To be effective, the committee’s work is founded on lasting change and the ability to support the general Princeton community with as few barriers to resources as possible, prioritizing preventative measures to ensure student wellness. Moreover, the committee’s work is inherently intersectional and dynamic, considering the scope and variability that comes with mental wellness. In consideration of these facts, the responsibilities of this committee are:

  • To create lasting infrastructure and collaborations within Princeton’s wellness system in order to support the mental wellbeing of all students in an easily accessible way
  • To improve upon existing aspects of the wellness system at Princeton
  • To represent the undergraduate student body’s interests and concerns regarding mental health and wellbeing at Princeton accurately both within USG and within Princeton’s administration
